This classic steel residence is one of only seven Steel Development Homes built in the early 1960’s designed by architects Donald A. Wexler and Richard Harrison. Sponsored by CalCorp and Rhee Metal, the steel homes were developed as prototypes to planned mass, modular modern housing. Like so many of these idealistic visions for better living, costs and the economy prohibited further development. Located in Palm Springs, the property is now designated historic in recognition of its unique contribution to Palm Springs’ desert lifestyle, and architecture. This present example retains its original footprint, and includes later updates by noted designer Stephen Chase.
