As a Sci-Arc graduate, student of Eric Owen Moss and Fred Fisher, Tim Petersen carries forward and incorporates significant elements of California Modernism: space, light and the open plan. Hallmarks of the design are the architect’s attention to detail, and the sublime qualities of the volumes within the open plan interior. The clarity of the whole proves the old adage “less is more.” Working with the owner, a metal sculptor, custom steel elements from the fireplace to the Corten steel outside gate, decks and the front fa??ade unify indoor and outdoor living spaces. Residence features incorporate a built-in stereo system in every room, an outdoor shower, bleached oak floors, and a Japanese soaking tub. With all rooms opening widely to the outdoors, the residence opened seems a pavilion for living in the garden.
